574
Dee Ferris at Corvi Mora with natural forms in abstract compositions.

576
John Latham at Serpentine Galleries in a retrospective.

577
Matt Paweski at Herald Street with aluminium constructions incorporating swirly motifs.

578
Maja Ruznic at Beers London.

528
Joachim Koester at Camden Arts Centre with video installations and plank walls. The performers on film do dance-like moves which awaken memories of imitating films as children.

529
Brick Lane

527
Bouchra Khalili at Lisson Gallery creates new maps of Europe with marker pen as he relates stories of people’s migration. There was a loud bellowing horn-like sound which I presumed to be a sound affect representing the arrival at a port, a major theme in this work.
It actually turned out to be workmen next door using some kind of heavy machinery as part of renovations.

526
Johanna Unzueta at Greengrassi with felt pipework. Part of the Condo gallery exchange project.

525
Brad Grievson at Arcadia Missa in Condo an art exchange project featuring International gallery artists in London galleries.

Gallery run 16th September

This week Thames and up to Hackney. Then Regent’s Canal to Limehouse.

351
Samson Kambalu at Kate MacGarry with an exhibition of situationist documents rephotographed in the Yale College Library. The originals had been controversially sold to the institution in an episode that embroiled their former owner Gianfranco Sanguinetti in criticism and lawsuits along with the present artist.

352
South Bank London skateboard and bike performance space.

353
Thilo Heinzmann at Carl Freedman Gallery with bright pigmented gestures on aluminium sheets that are highly resistant to the cuts that have been made to them.

354
Olivia Plender at Maureen Paley reinterpreting the causal sequences of our historical narratives. Tapestry called Brittania receiving her newest institution. These are where the artist sees much narrative thread-making happening.

355
Lynette Yiadom Boakye at Corvi Mora with individuals in contemplative situations.

356
Ik Joong Kang Floating Dreams on the River Thames. Having seen him the previous day in discussion at 5×15 Trinity Buoy Wharf, I knew he instigated and collected thousands of drawings from children. These are placed in large constructions on rivers usually which he sees as connectors not barriers.

357
Paolo Gioli at Wilkinson Gallery. It’s a camera! This show archives the three basic cameras used by the artist. Who needs a lens when a hole will do? As for a film feed, why not just give it a tug? On show mainly are the resulting experimental films and screen prints.

358Gretchen Faust at Greengrassi with natural forms and cultural artefacts intermixed. This gold leaf piece in Autumn.

359Richard Serra in the City.

Gallery run 29th June

265
Serpentine Pavilion.

Pablo Bronstein of Herald Street at Tate Britain. Dancers perform against a classical setting of theatre backdrop and neoclassical colonnades.

268
David Schroeter The Seven Stones at Royal College of Art show 2016.

269
Nick Relf at Herald Street.

Gallery runs extra photos

Favourite photos from the archive.

19a1Georg Baselitz at White Cube. These studies of the artist and wife in watercolour are great.

19a2Blair Thurman at Almine Rech Gallery. Loved the unfinished paint of this otherwise immaculate sculpture-painting. Photographed in April.

19a3Chantal Joffe at Victoria Miro. Loved this painting photographed in March.

19a4Sterling Ruby at Spruth and Magers with art to wear. Loved the colours of this work photographed in May.

19a5Jules de Balincourt at Victoria Miro. Beautiful colour and the light is almost tangible. A favourite photo from the archive.

19a6Nam June Paik at Tate Modern. A favourite photo I took on a gallery run in April.

19a7Matt Copson at Wilkinson Gallery. Great expletive-punctuated monologue from Reynard the Fox. But done with shrewdness by the artist.

19a8

19a9Adam Buick at Corvi Mora in February. A favourite photo I hadn’t posted at the time. A solar system of pots.

Gallery run 11th March

James Coleman, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Lari Pittman offer their established styles in new works. Joanne Greenbaum and Polly Apfelbaum bring colour whilst Imran Qureshi, Jeff Zilm and Maria Taniguchi show great delicacy.121Lari Pittman at Thomas Dane Gallery with layered paintings.

122In Wardour Street, Chinatown, where the lanterns are up.

123Jeff Zilm at Simon Lee Gallery produced these filmic spray-painted images. He does a chemical reaction on 35mm film stock and transposes the results onto canvas.

124Polly Apfelbaum at Frith Street Gallery.

125James Coleman with a mini retrospective at Marian Goodman. This new piece is on a giant, bright, led screen that actually seems to radiate warmth.

126Maria Taniguchi at Ibid with a series of brick paintings.

127Rirkrit Tiravanija at Pilar Corrias was in discussion with Andrea Zittel shown above. She saw the rock as a symbolic place for a future commune shelter project.

128Imran Qureshi at Corvi Mora with Mughal inspired miniature watercolour paintings.

129Joanne Greenbaum at Greengrassi. Great drips, spaces and interconnections.

Gallery run 26th February

Cinema is a theme in two shows. LSD features at a third show and at both Corvi Mora and Greengrassi galleries there is domesticity with a twist.

10aIt’s opposite St Pancras station and is clearly a work of art, but by whom?

10bBridget Smith at Frith Street Gallery brings us cinema as spectacle. Light becomes object and chairs become sea!

10cJennifer Pastor presents Hand Made Knives 2015, with a fabulous cast-knife-block. We see traces of polystyrene holes and gaffer tape wrinkles.

10dChristies on Duke St St James has a fetching side door during refurbishment.

10eHeman Chong, represented by Wilkinson Gallery showing at South London Gallery. 1,000,000 blacked out business cards which you can walk on.

10fAdam Buick presents Rare Earth at Corvi Mora. He rubs grit and compounds he acquires from landscapes into his pots. Here the pot has become palpably warped due to the introduction of a mobile phone during the firing process!

10gLaura Owens’ style of symbols with drop shadows works well on this piece. The paper has perforations and a group of artists worked on this standard template shown at Rob Tufnell. Their remit was to emulate LSD packaging whilst adding artistic and additional ironic commentary of their own.

10hAlexandre De Cunha offers more bright-mundane and gives the objects spiritual worth in this excellent show at Thomas Dane entitled Freefall. Yes it is a parachute!

10iStan Douglas at Victoria Miro tells the story of the 1974 revolution in Portugal in The Secret Agent. He uses 6 screens and for good measure features a cinema.
