1191
Lesley Vance of Herald Street with beautiful formal compositions that use a range of styles including a nice gestural brushstroke stylie.

1192
Oscar Tuazon at Maureen Paley with work that references major projects in the US. These involve live-in spaces as well as political agitation for communities to keep access to dwindling water resources as it gets syphoned off by industry. We are presented with the basic elements in the gallery of fire, water and earth, or in this case rust.

1193
Anwar Jalal Shemza at Hales Gallery exploring the vast possibilities of composition using just circles, squares and, of course, colour.

1194
The star-crossed lovers are featured in a great mural near Hoxton.

1195
Kathryn MacNaughton at Beers London with carefully rendered re-workings of computer and mouse-generated images.

1196
Sarah Sze of Victoria Miro with great photo and paint collages. They are shown alongside lots of torn images attached to the gallery’s walls with blue tape. It is as though the artist has recreated the laboratory of visual associations from which the formally mounted works derived, as an installation in the gallery.

1197
Katharina Grosse of Gagosian with giant spray paint and stencil works, executed as high art abstraction.

1198
Eline McGeorge of Hollybush Gardens who creates pixilated images by weaving emergency foil blankets into natural imagery. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates an extra pathos suggesting that nature maybe in the position of the injured patient.

1199
Footie-England flags casting their red-crossed shadow onto a pavement somewhere near the end of today’s run in Peckham.

Gallery run 11th June

1181
Serpentine Pavilion 2018 by Frida Escobedo that uses standard roof tiles to create the loosely stacked walls. These in turn have been orientated and cut away as shown, to create powerful juxtapositions with the outside space.

1182
An unassuming roof tile forms the basic structural element of the Serpentine Pavilion 2018.

1183
Frida Escobedo stands in the 5mm of water that makes a striking reflecting surface in her Serpentine Pavilion as the press capture images at an opening event.

1184
Frida Escobedo and her team who have worked together to create the Serpentine Pavilion.

1185
Tomma Abts at the Serpentine Gallery with abstract paintings of radiating circles and other geometric forms. The use of shadows cast by these different forms helps create a powerful overall composition.

1186
Christo and Jeanne Claude with a giant artwork on The Serpentine made from stacked oil barrels.

Gallery run 7th June

1171

Seung Taek Lee at White Cube with great sculptures made from brightly coloured vinyl sheet stretched over sculptural supports.

1175
Julian Schnabel at Pace Gallery has painted expressive black marks reminiscent (to me) of ploughs and pitch forks, on blown-up prints that originally celebrated country life. The prints were made by a Royal Academician and for those in the know Pace shares a building with the RA who are celebrating 250 years and this body of work is a nod to that anniversary.

1176
Adboulaye Konate of Blain Southern showing at Stephen Friedman Gallery in a group show that celebrates African art and culture.

1179
Charlie Barlow at Slade postgraduate show with clusters of spots all over the corridors and even into the loo.

Gallery run 31st May

1161
Jonathan Trayte at Kate MacGarry using cement and vinyl sticker to make striking high-art.

1162
Jordan Kasey at Kate MacGarry with an unusual close-up of familiar subject matter. The two pairs of lights look, to me at least, like pairs of cartoon eyes staring up from the dark background. They are in fact the windows of the house behind.

1163
Luke Rudolf of Kate MacGarry with carefully composed paintings.

1164
Zofia Rydet showing at Calvert 22 with examples of photos from documentation of over 20,000 families.

1165
Weronika Gesicka at Calvert 22 with interesting photos of partially missing figures. In this particular image the jigsaw make this theme of absence part of a visual pun.

1166
St.Paul’s Cathedral as it’s never been seen before, by artist Abigail Reynolds at Peer UK.
